It was a murder case that rocked a small community in Ohio: a little girl walking home from elementary school was snatched from the street, sexually assaulted and brutally murdered.

Now, advancements in forensic technology have at last provided some answers — and the perpetrator proved to be someone who had long been on the radar of law enforcement.

Seannie’s last walk home

It was June 3rd 1980, and eight-year-old Asenath Dukat — Seannie to her loving family — had just left Barrington Elementary School to walk the mile back home to Malvern Road. She was a little later than usual, as her entire class had been held back ten minutes as punishment for their rowdiness during lessons that day.

Asenath had also opted to make the journey on foot rather than on her bike as she typically might, as she had complained to her mother Martha just that morning that the seat had been hurting her.
