A Bona Fide Mystery: Where Is Jason Jolkowski?
The teenager was supposed to get a ride to work with a co-worker but never showed up. Two decades later, his whereabouts remain unknown.
It was 2001, and 19-year-old Jason Jolkowski from Nebraska was on his summer break from community college. He was studying part-time on a radio broadcasting programme in Iowa, as well as working a few shifts at a local restaurant called Fazoli’s to pay his way through it. Eventually, he wanted to become a radio DJ.
Last movements
June 13th 2001 was supposed to be a day off, and Jason was home with his younger brother Michael while their parents were at work. However, part-way through the morning, the phone rang. It was Jason’s boss at Fazoli’s, asking him if he could come in to cover a shift for someone else.
The arrangement presented a logistical hiccup for Jason. His own car was being fixed at the local mechanic’s shop, so he told his employer he would need a ride if he was going to come in. A ride was duly arranged with a co-worker who was also scheduled to be at the restaurant that day, and Jason asked her if they could meet in the parking lot of the nearby Benson High School.
