A Camping Trip Tragedy: The Disappearance of Garrett Bardsley

The 12-year-old vanished in 2004 and was never seen again.

It should have been an idyllic camping trip in the mountains of Utah for 12-year-old Garrett Bardsley and his father Kevin when they set off to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest with a Scout group in August of 2004.

However, no one could have anticipated that Garrett would become separated from his dad and disappear without trace — or that there would still be no sign of him nearly 20 years on.

So is the official explanation — that he died of exposure — accurate, or could something else have happened to the little boy?

Last movements

Garrett and his father had travelled to Cuberant Lake from their home in Elk Ridge on Thursday 19th August, and they were looking forward to getting in some good fishing early the next morning.

But by 8:00 AM on August 20th, Garrett was uncomfortable. He had got his feet and some of his clothes soaked through in the chilly lake water and he wanted to get changed into something comfortable again.
