It was 2009, and 29-year-old Janine Johnson and her 39-year-old boyfriend Stephen Taylor from Ferris in Texas were in a committed relationship and enjoying life. Stephen had a great rapport with Janine’s 11-year-old son from a previous relationship, and the couple were keen softball players at their local sports centre.

But when their failure to show up at a practice led to the discovery of their bodies, nobody could have guessed that Janine and Stephen’s murder would remain unsolved more than a decade later.

With improvements in DNA technology, can this brutal double homicide finally be solved?

A shocking scene

On the evening of March 21st 2009, Janine and Stephen had enjoyed one of their regular games of softball and had agreed to return the following day for a rematch. However, they didn’t keep the appointment and no one was able to rouse them on the phone at home.
