California Sheriff Announces 1983 Murder Of Teenage Girl Was Solved By A Strand Of Hair
The killer of 14-year-old Rashell Ward in the picturesque city of Red Bluff had been a mystery for more than 40 years.
Authorities in California have announced a cold case murder has been solved after more than 40 years using a single strand of hair that was found on the victim’s body.
Rashell Ward, 14, lived in Red Bluff along California’s Sacramento Valley and was walking to school as she usually did on March 3rd 1983.
According to the Austin American Statesman newspaper, she would typically call for her friend Becky Turner in order to make the short journey to the Seventh Day Adventist School on Jackson Street.
However, that particular day, Rashell got to the Turners’ apartment and discovered the family car was already gone. Thinking that Becky’s mother had probably opted to drive her daughter to school because of the rain, Rashell continued on her short walk unperturbed.
It was to be a fateful decision, because at some point between 8:00 and 8:30 AM, a man pulled up alongside the schoolgirl, pointed a gun at her and forcibly abducted her in his car.
