The family of a Michigan woman who has been missing since 1975 is hoping for answers regarding her whereabouts after her cold case was reclassified to an abduction homicide.

Janis Sanders, 24, was never seen again after leaving a restaurant almost six decades ago, but both police and her loved ones believe they know who took her. Now, they are optimistic about finding the clue or proof that could bring her remains home.

Last movements

Janis came from Niles in Michigan and was working as a waitress at Pete’s Patio Restaurant on July 20th 1975. She left her shift around midnight and was seen by witnesses going outside with her ex-boyfriend Gerald Casimer ‘Jerry’ Libertowski Jr.

She had ended a relationship with him just a week earlier and had moved back in with her parents in Indiana’s South Bend, suggesting it was over for good.

But Libertowski was back — and chillingly, witnesses to their heated conversation in the restaurant parking lot would later say he was acting “like a madman” towards…
