Gone From Her Garage: The Disappearance of Veronica Blumhorst
Speculation abounds in this mysterious vanishing, but no trace of a body was ever located.

When Veronica Blumhorst left her workplace early due to illness one night in September of 1990, she intended to go home and rest.
However, although evidence suggests she made it to within yards of her own front door, the shy 21-year-old never actually entered the property — and she was never seen again.
Veronica is presumed murdered, but the culprit was never caught. Investigators now suspect it will take a tip from the public or a deathbed confession to solve this cold case.
Veronica is gone
It was the early hours of September 20th 1990, and Veronica Jill Blumhorst was struggling through a night shift at the Dempsey’s Super Valu grocery store where she worked in Mendota, Illinois.
She had already taken time off work sick earlier that week, but had returned to the store to fulfil her usual obligations just a few hours before. However, by one in the morning, Veronica must have realised she had made a mistake in thinking she was back to fighting fit.
Although she tried her hardest to remain stoic, Veronica finally admitted defeat and told her co-workers she was going back home to sleep off her illness. She clocked out at 1:07 AM, taking with her a rented copy of the Bette Midler movie Stella.
In the morning, Veronica had arranged to give her younger brother Todd a ride to school, but she failed to show up when 8:00 AM rolled around. Todd called their father Paul to enquire about his sister and organise alternative transport, but Paul wasn’t overly worried.
He assumed she had probably gone to breakfast with her boyfriend Jeff Veverka and simply lost track of time. Jeff was 22 and the pair had been dating for five months, but the relationship already seemed serious.
Indeed, according to the Journal Star, Veronica had been considering the prospect of marrying the computer tech graduate at some point in the not-too-distant future.
But alarm bells began to ring when Jeff himself called the Blumhorst house at around…
