Killed Because She Called Him a Weirdo: The Murder of Rita Gutierrez-Garcia
When a young mother received unwanted attention on a night out, she couldn’t have known she had crossed paths with a dangerous individual.
It was St Patrick’s Day 2018, and 34-year-old Rita Gutierrez-Garcia had been out celebrating the festivities with friends and family in Longmont, Colorado. She was training to be a paralegal on top of raising three sons, so she was undoubtedly looking forward to having an evening to herself to unwind.
But she went missing just hours later — and what followed would be a long road to justice for the loved ones she left behind.
Rita’s last movements
Rita and her friends had been to Breakers Grill in downtown Longmont on March 17th, and it was the early hours of the following morning by the time the group exited near Main Street.
Her cousin saw Rita talking to some people in the parking lot of 3’s Bar at around 2:30 AM, but it seems the original group became separated or at least went their separate ways after that. Unfortunately, it would be the last time Rita was seen alive.
