I have covered many cases on this page in which lone men, women and children have gone missing, and even a few in which pairs of people have disappeared.

But instances in which an entire family has effectively vanished off the face of the earth are much, much rarer. However, that’s exactly what happened to the Jack family from Canada 34 years ago.

All those decades on and with no trace of them, can their loved ones ever hope to find answers to this enduring mystery?

An offer too good to be true

Ronnie and Doreen Jack had grown up in Canada’s Burns Lake region, but they were living in Prince George in 1989 with their two children Russell, nine, and Ryan, four.

They had been having it tough lately, with Ronnie out of work due to a back injury he had sustained and welfare barely covering their expenses.

Then, out of the blue came what must have seemed like manna from heaven: an offer of work for both Ronnie and Doreen that would fit in with family life. The offer…
