Man Arrested For 1983 Cold Case Murders in Canada
The suspect of the brutal killings was living quietly in a remote part of the country when DNA caught up with him.
Police in Toronto have announced they have arrested a 61-year-old man in connection with two murders that took place in the city back in 1983.
Joseph George Sutherland is being held in custody and stands accused of killing 45-year-old Susan Tice and 22-year-old Erin Gilmour in their respective apartments.
Double murder
Susan Tice was a mother of four and had just divorced her husband in August 1983. She had recently moved to an apartment in Toronto from Calgary and was hoping to make a fresh start by setting up her own family counselling business.
However, when she failed to show up at a family gathering, a relative went to check on her and made an horrific discovery. Susan had been sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in her own bed.
While police scrambled to chase up elusive leads on the shocking crime, there was more to come. On December 20th 1983, a friend of 22-year-old Erin Gilmour went to her apartment in Yorkville to pick her up for a cocktail party.
