Police in California have announced that a man has been arrested and charged in a cold murder case dating back to 2005 — and it is the same suspect they previously had to let go due to lack of evidence.

Philip William Frase, 75, is being held in custody for the unlawful killing of 56-year-old Patricia Joseph, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office revealed in a statement on Facebook.

Patricia had been reported missing on July 15th 2005 after she failed to return to her residence in Fort Jones, California. She was discovered three days later, her lifeless body floating in the Klamath River near the Ash Creek Bridge along State Route 96.

According to an autopsy, Patricia had died as a result of multiple blunt force traumas and asphyxia. She was partially clothed and had been in the water for several days.

The investigation into the murder was slow and charges against a suspect were not made until five years later, in 2010. It was announced then that Philip William Frase was to be charged with kidnapping and killing Patricia, the Press Democrat reported.
