Sacramento County’s Oldest Cold Case Solved By DNA

The killer of a young court reporter who was brutally slain just before her wedding has finally been identified.

Authorities in Sacramento County have announced they have solved their longest-standing cold case homicide, although the relief was tainted with disappointment that the perpetrator is already dead.

Nancy Bennallack was 28 and worked as a court reporter in October 1970. She was engaged to chief public defender Farris Salamy, and the two were set to be married in just two weeks’ time.

On October 25th, Nancy and Farris had spent the evening together at her apartment before Farris left to return to his own residence at around 11:30 PM. Nancy was already in bed and the sliding glass door to her second-floor balcony was slightly ajar so her cat could come and go as it pleased.

But at some time during the early hours of the next morning, an intruder climbed up to the balcony and let himself into the apartment. He had put tape over his fingers to avoid his fingerprints being detected as he did what he was about to do next.

The intruder stabbed Nancy more than 30 times, almost decapitating her in his frenzy. She sustained severe defensive wounds to her hands and arms as she fought…
