Shelley Ann Werner Murder Solved After 40 Years — And Fear Kept The Case Cold
The teenager was abducted in broad daylight and killed, but someone has finally come forward to say they knew who did it.
Police in Indiana have revealed a cold case murder dating back to 1980 appears to have been solved after a tipster came forward to say they knew who killed the teenage victim.
Shelley’s abduction
Shelley Ann Werner was just 15 when she left her family home in Mishawaka on June 16th that year to buy some groceries from the local Wilt’s supermarket. She said goodbye to her mother and drove the Werners’ orange Volkswagen the two miles to the store, where she made her purchases and left again.
However, no sooner had Shelley crossed the parking lot and got back in her vehicle than a young man with blond hair approached her and opened the driver’s side door. She subsequently slid over to the passenger side before he climbed in and drove the pair of them away.
According to the South Bend Tribune’s reports at the time, a witness said the man looked to be about 18 years old and had been “loitering” outside the supermarket prior to his interaction with Shelley.
