Still Unsolved After 31 Years: Who Killed Cheryl Shackleton?

The young mother’s body was found far from home and her murderer continues to get away with the crime.

Police in London are still hoping to solve the 1991 murder of a young mother who originated from Lancashire, despite leads in the case having long since dried up. In a recent appeal through MyLondon, members of the public who might remember the crime are reminded that the Metropolitan Police never closes murder investigations and that the CrimeStoppers organisation remains open to tips.

A difficult time

Cheryl Shackleton ran a jewellery business in the Lancashire town of Colne with her husband Michael, but the pair had decided to separate in late 1990.

She sold her house on Messenger Street and had begun to live a transient lifestyle, travelling around northern Britain with her belongings in a suitcase. Family members had since become concerned about her mental health, as well as the fact that she was often sighted carrying large sums of money about her person.
