The Disappearance of Kierra Coles

Kierra Coles was 26 and three months pregnant in the fall of 2018. She had recently got her own place and was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first child. But instead of welcoming her baby to the world and becoming a mother, she disappeared without trace.

Almost three years on, her devastated family is trying to keep the case in the public eye in the hope of encouraging police to do more to find out what really happened to her.

Kierra’s disappearance

Kierra worked for the US Postal Service and lived on Chicago’s South Side, where she had recently moved in to a new apartment. She had been dating a man named Josh Simmons — the baby’s father — for about six years.

Although he had children with another woman from a previous relationship, Kierra’s family believed the couple to be going strong and it was Josh that Kierra planned to spend the evening of October 2nd 2018 with, according to her mother Karen Philips.

The mother and daughter had spoken on the phone that night as they often did, and it was only when a couple of days went by and Karen realised she hadn’t…
