The Miss America Murder: Who Killed Coleen Egland?
More than three decades after her death, her family hopes to raise awareness — and answers.
Coleen Egland grew up in Florida as one of four sisters who were always together, but it was Coleen herself who was known for being the bubbly one everyone wanted to be around.
Even when she and her sisters Carrie and Cheryl had entered the world of work by the mid-1980s and were employed by a building firm in San Carlos Park, Cheryl recalled adult life hadn’t dampened her indomitable spirit.
“She was a beautiful soul. They called her Miss America when she was a little girl,” Cheryl told Fox 4.
However, life had dealt some trying cards to Coleen during her late teens and early twenties. She had given birth to a son at 17 and subsequently gave him up for adoption, then had a daughter some six years later who went to live with her paternal grandparents.
Despite these tribulations, though, Coleen was working to get her life’s plans back on track and ensure she was a good mother to the little girl, whom she had named Erica. Little did she know she would soon no longer have the chance to demonstrate her devotion.
