The Murder of Kirsty Bentley: Now NZ Police Offer Huge Reward For Information
Could the promise of such a huge amount of money lure Kirsty Bentley’s murderer out of the woodwork?
Police in New Zealand have offered a substantial reward to anyone who can help them solve one of the country’s highest profile cold case murders.
Kirsty Bentley was just 15 when she was killed back in 1998 and no one was ever prosecuted for the crime. Now, almost a quarter of a century later, investigators feel there is still hope that the perpetrator could finally be caught and brought to justice.
Kirsty’s disappearance
It was around 3:00 PM on New Year’s Eve when Kirsty left the family home in Hampstead to take their dog Abby for a walk. She was passing the time while she waited for her boyfriend to call her back after she had missed one of his calls earlier in the day.
However, when she failed to return from what should have been a short trip along a familiar trail, her concerned parents and brother raised the alarm and a search was mounted for the teenager.
The family dog was discovered tied to a tree near the Ashburton River after a frantic night of looking, but there was still no sign of Kirsty herself…
