The Murder of Michelle Koski: Suspect Identified After 32 Years

After more than three decades of waiting, the 17-year-old’s family finally knows who killed her.

Authorities in Washington state have announced they have identified a suspect in a cold murder case that had baffled detectives for years.

Michelle Koski lived in Seattle and was just about to graduate from high school when she was last seen on August 18th 1990. She had been hanging out with her friends and witnesses said they spotted her near her home on the 13300 Block of 30th Avenue that afternoon.

However, she subsequently disappeared and it was not until August 25th that a woman walking her dog discovered the teenager’s body at Highway 522 and Echo Lake Road in Snohomish County.

Michelle had been raped, beaten, strangled and finally bludgeoned to death before being dumped in the woods on the edge of a lake. Unfortunately, there were few leads and the case quickly went cold.

Detectives David Heitzman and Jim Scharf from the Snohomish County Cold Case Unit took another look at the murder in 2005, and it became apparent that DNA had been left behind by Michelle’s killer.
