The Murder of Richard Wayne Guarro: What Happened in Vegas?

Investigators in Nevada are appealing for information from the public in solving the murder of a holidaymaker who was murdered in Las Vegas in the 1990s.

Richard Wayne Guarro was from Florida and had been on a week-long trip to Sin City’s famous strip in November 1996. However, when the date for him to return home came and went on November 18th and there was still no sign of him, his relatives knew something was wrong.

Las Vegas homicide Lt. Ray Spencer told the Reno Gazette Journal: “His family was concerned because it wasn’t like him to just disappear.”

Unfortunately, few additional details are available about what happened next. A missing persons report was filed and the authorities alerted, but there was no sign of Richard. Gradually, without any leads as to his whereabouts, his case went cold.

Five years later, on July 7th 2001, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) got a call to report that human remains had been discovered near the 1–15 and US 93 in a remote location in the desert. The Clark County Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide by blunt force trauma and said the victim was a Caucasian man likely…
