Police in New Jersey have revealed they have made an arrest in connection with a Memorial Day weekend murder that took place more than 30 years ago.
Susan Negersmith, 20, was brutally assaulted and killed as she took part in celebrations to mark the end of her school year in the vacation resort of Wildwood, but the perpetrator was never found.
Now, investigators have someone in custody — but he still hasn’t been properly linked to her murder in yet another twist to this ongoing cold case. So, what do police think happened, and why has it taken so long to begin to get justice for Susan? Here, we’ll take a closer look.
A vacation gone terribly wrong
Susan lived in the upstate New York town of Carmel, but had travelled with friends to the city of Wildwood in New Jersey to let her hair down for Memorial Day in May of 1990.
