The Murder of Veronica Kaye: How a Button Could Be Key
The Canadian teenager’s murder case is long cold, but police believe a tiny piece of crime scene evidence could solve it.
Veronica Kaye was 18 years old in the autumn of 1980, and she liked to do the same things as most teenagers of that era: meet up with friends, go to the mall and attend the odd party in her neighbourhood.
But one of her social engagements would end up in her murder — and it is a case that has still not been solved nearly 42 years later. Now, police hope that getting fresh eyes on the case could crack it once and for all.
Disappeared without trace
Veronica lived with her grandmother in Etobicoke, Canada, because her apartment was closer to school, friends and her part-time job. However, she was still close to her immediate family, and had been out trick-or-treating with two of her younger siblings on Halloween night in 1980.
A few days later, on November 7th, Veronica left the apartment and went to catch a Mississauga Transit bus to the nearby Square One Mall. On the way, she got off and headed to Cherish Photography where a friend of hers worked.
