When a young female taxi driver was shot to death in San Diego County in 1986, the community was shocked and saddened. But then it happened again just weeks later — and police have never ascertained if the two cases are even linked.

So, was there a serial killer preying on cabbies? Was he specifically targeting women? And if so, did he simply stop amid fears of capture or did he move on to a location where he was less likely to be noticed? Here, we’ll take a look at the limited evidence.

The murder of Linda Younger

Linda was working for a company called Yellow Cab on June 27th 1986 when her dispatcher received an unusual phone call from a concerned member of the public. The caller said one of Yellow’s cars had been left abandoned with its lights shining into the window of a nearby building.

When a supervisor went to check, they came upon a frightening scene. Linda sat lifeless in the passenger seat of her own cab, having been shot to death.
