It remains one of the most famous missing persons cases in Canadian history. What happened to four-year-old Michael Dunahee after his disappearance in 1991, and will he ever be found alive?

Police in British Columbia hope so, and they have now released a new age-progression sketch to mark 30 years since he was last seen in the hope that it will jog someone’s memory and finally solve the mystery.

Gone in minutes

Bruce and Crystal Dunahee had taken their two children to a touch football game at Blanshard Elementary School that fateful day in March 1991. Crystal was playing, and her husband was watching six-month-old Caitlin and four-year-old Michael on the sidelines while she donned her cleats.

Michael became restless and asked if he could go to a playground just a few yards away to use the climbing frames and other equipment. Since the play area was within easy view of the field, Michael was told to go on ahead while his father checked on the game and then caught him up.
